Joint Maintenance Formula FAQs:

At the April 2000 conference of the American Nutraceutical Association, research was presented on studies of various products containing chondroiten: Only 16 percent contained what their -labels claimed, with many of those tested having almost no supplement at all. It was also noted that studies on products containing glucosamine also found that many fell significantly shy of label claims

Chondroiten helps promote water retention in the cartilage, which is essential for shock absorption. It has been reported to maintain joint viscosity, stimulate the mechanisms for cartilage repair, and inhibit enzymes that break down cartilage. In the early stages of joint disease there are changes in chondroiten that affect the response of the chondrocytes (cells that form cartilage) to damage in the cartilage that surrounds the joints. When taken orally, chondroiten provides the necessary compounds for the formation of healthy tissue that otherwise may not be available due to the joint disease.

Glucosamine is a major building block of the water-binding molecules that play an important role in the building of cartilage. It also is needed to make proteins that bind water in the cartilage matrix “birthplace” of cartilage. In fact, the presence of glucosamine acts as a stimulant to the cells that actually produce these products. Several studies have shown that besides stimulating the production of cartilage, glucosamine helps to reduce pain and improve joint function in those with osteoarthritis.
