Omega-3 - "Burp Back"
Todd Whitthorne
What About Burp Back?
I would hope by now you are taking Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 fish oil, an outstanding nutrient that has multiple benefits. The scientific press continues to tout its importance.
The only challenge with taking fish oil is that some people - not all, but some - experience what I refer to as "burp back." This is the "fishy" type aftertaste that sometimes follows the ingestion of the soft gels. This seems to happen to a small percentage of people when they first begin taking the product. That is the bad news. The good news is that if you give it some time, usually seven to 10 days, the indigestion will go away.
Keep in mind that the PUFA's (polyunsaturated fatty acids), specifically the Omega-3's, play a vital role in the membranes of our cells. If the membrane is comprised of a healthy balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 then the cell operates more efficiently, i.e., the nutrients get in and the waste products get out much more easily. With a Western diet we generally consume plenty of Omega-6's, but not enough Omega-3's. That is why it sometimes takes a short period of time for our bodies to adjust.
If "burp backs" are a problem, be patient. The benefits far outweigh the short term "speed bumps." Make sure to consume the soft gels with meals and you can also try storing the Advanced Omega-3 in the refrigerator.
