Advanced Omega-3 FAQ's

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown in epidemiological and clinical trials to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends at least two servings of fatty fish per week. However, this can be difficult for people who dislike fish or for those who are concerned about the recent warnings about methyl mercury contamination in our fish supply.

Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 is a high potency fish oil concentrate including 60 percent concentration of EPA and DHA from deep ocean fish. The majority of other products containing omega-3 fatty acids offer only a 30 percent concentration. This high potency omega-3 oil is specially processed and is presented in the free form. Free form omega 3 oils have been clinically shown to provide the finest and most efficient absorption of all commercially available omega-3 rich oil.

This product is recommended for men and women 18 years of age and older. The recommended dosage is 2-3 softgels per day, taken with food. One bottle contains 60 softgels.

Q: Can I take this product in addition to the Cooper Complete vitamins?
A: Yes, this product is not a vitamin, it is a fish oil supplement and can be taken with food at the same time you take your multivitamin.

Q: Do I need to refrigerate the Omega 3 product once I have opened the bottle?
A: No, there is no need to refrigerate this product. As with all of the Cooper Complete brand of supplements, you should take care to keep the bottle closed tightly and stored out of direct sunlight and away from humid environments such as your bathroom.

Q: I am allergic to fish, is it OK for me to take this product?
A: It would not be advisable for you to take the Omega 3 product if you have such a condition.

Q: I already eat a lot of fish, should I take this fish oil supplement?
A: The Cooper Complete Advanced Omega 3 supplement contains high potency fish oil, much higher than most of the other commercially available products on the market. Therefore, if you are already eating 4 or more servings of fatty types of fish per week such as salmon, Arctic char, trout, or tuna, you may not need additional omega 3 in your diet. The FDA has noted that high intakes of fish oil could cause excessive bleeding in some people. It is not recommended to consume more than 3 grams through food or supplements without the direction of your personal physician.

Q: Is the fish oil contained in Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 from wild, or farm raised fish?
A: The fish oil used in Cooper Complete is from wild fish, not farm raised. The wild fish oil is from deep water fish, which provide a higher level of Omega-3’s and tend to feed at deeper depths where their food source is less likely to contain contaminants.

Q: What fish does the fish oil contained in Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 come from?
A: A “blend” of various wild, deep water fish is used. Salmon, popularly believed to be the fish oil provides only about 20 – 22 percent Omega-3’s. To achieve a higher Omega-3 potency, other fish oils such as menhaden, sardine, etc. are blended.

Q: How much omega-3 fish oil is in your product?
A: Cooper Complete Advanced Omega 3 contains 2 grams (2,000 mg) of fish oil. A position paper from the American Heart Association released in November 2002, suggest that people should consume at least 1 gram (1,000 mg) per day.

Q: What are EPA and DHA?
A: There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids: eicopentaenoic and docosahexaenoic, and alpha-linolenic acid. Eicopentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are the omega-3 fatty acids commonly found in fish. Much of the research on omega-3 and their ability to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors has been found with the consumption of these two fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic acid comes from plants and includes flaxseed, walnut, and canola oils made from nuts and seeds, as well as tofu and other forms of soybeans.

Q: How much EPA and DHA does Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contain?
A: There is a total of 1.2 grams (1,200 mg) of EPA/DHA in our product.

Q: What is the purity level of Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3?
A: In order to obtain the 60 percent concentration of Omega-3, our manufacturing process begins with Omega-3 30 percent oil that has already gone through a saponification process that removes many contaminants that may be present. From there, we further process the oil to remove an even larger amount of non-Omega-3 components, which allow us to achieve the 60 percent level of Omega-3’s. The patented process used further removes any potential remaining contaminants resulting in some of the purest Omega-3 fish oil available in the market.

Q: Why is the product a dark color?
A: The standard Omega-3 oil available by most manufacturers is a 30 percent concentration of Omega-3 and is more of a light amber color. The higher potency 50 percent concentration is even lighted due to the ethyl ethanol that is used in the processing. Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 is darker as a result of the patented process used to derive the high Omega-3 potency and the conversion to the Free Fatty Acid form. During the processing into the “free form”, we pull out many of the other non-Omega-3 components, some of which provide for the lighter color of less potent/non-free-form products.

Q: Does Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contain mercury?
A: During the process that converts Omega Oil into the “high potency” EPA/DHA, the oil is more refined than regular 30 percent oils because many of the non-EPA/EHA components that make up the oil are removed. Due to this processing, Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contains less than 1 part-per-billion of mercury, which is extremely low.

Q: Does Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contain PCBs?
A: Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 is guaranteed to contain less than 10 part-per-billion PCB.

Q: What kind of gelatin is used in Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3?
A: The gelatin we use is calf hide and certified Kosher.
