Advanced Omega-3 Dietary Supplement

Advanced Omega-3 Dietary Supplement

Omega-3 fish oil is clinically proven to improve heart health, support brain function, increase longevity and promote joint health and flexibility*.  Increases in dietary intake are recommended around the world.

Omega-3 fish oil has been shown to significantly reduce triglyceride and C-reactive protein levels. It also supports healthy blood pressure, heart rhythm and vascular circulation; including stronger blood vessel walls and slowed progression of plaque build-up in the arteries.

Cooper Complete® Advanced Omega-3 contains concentrated, naturally occurring omega-3s from deep ocean fish, and is guaranteed to exceed industry standards for purity (eliminating toxins and metals), Advanced Omega-3 from Cooper is also deodorized for no fishy taste and is burp-free.

For adults, a 2-capsule serving is suggested along with a Cooper Complete multivitamin and mineral formula.  Take with food.  Each bottle provides a one month supply (60 capsules).

What are EPA and DHA?
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are vital nutrients for humans.  They naturally occur in fish and seafood and work together in the human body.  Because EPA and DHA cannot be synthesized by humans, they must be consumed through diet or supplements.

There is an urgent call for increased consumption of EPA and DHA as thousands of published clinical research trials illustrate how the decline in dietary intake of these omega-3s is adversely affecting our health and longevity today.

Omega-3 EPA and DHA intake is strongly related to longevity and survival.  In fact, low intake of EPA and DHA along with high intake of salt and trans fats are the top 3 dietary factors most closely related to mortality today. Furthermore, consuming a minimum 250 mg EPA and DHA (500 mg total) per day has been shown to significantly improve survival in adults with and without known heart conditions

EPA resides in cell membranes where it competes for placement with arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid.  When EPA is present in the cell, it provides the raw material for metabolic pathways that reduce inflammatory response; AA, on the other hand, provides the raw materials which increase inflammatory response.  Both are important, however, the problem today is that our diets consume an abundant amount of omega-6 fats and a very low amount of omega-3 fats and the result, is our cells are ill-equipped to respond to the cellular demands of living in a balanced and healthy manner. The result of this imbalance is clear among Americans today; we have a striking increase in chronic health conditions related to inflammation (e.g. over-weight, heart, blood sugar and joint issues).  Clinical research using omega-3 fish oil with more EPA than DHA has been shown to measurably improve the health of the heart, brain and joints.

Fish oil promotes heart health. Omega-3 fish oil has been shown to significantly reduce triglycerides, support healthy blood pressure levels and healthy heart rhythm.  Fish oil also promotes vascular health and circulation, including structural integrity of blood vessel walls and slowed progression of plaque build up in the arteries.  Individuals who take fish oil have been shown to have lower C-reactive protein levels*.

Fish oil plays a role in supporting brain and mood health.  A clinical study in which individuals with mood conditions were given EPA-rich fish oil for 8 weeks, significant improvements were measured. Similar results have been seen in women with mood conditions after giving birth*.

I've heard that ALA is an omega-3. Why is ALA not included in Advanced Omega-3?
ALA (alpha linolenic acid) is an omega-3 fat found in plants, (e.g.  walnuts and flax).  ALA does not perform the same biological functions as EPA and DHA, and while it is considered a precursor to longer chain EPA and DHA, research indicates it converts poorly (about 5% to EPA and less than 1% to DHA) and is not a reliable source of EPA and DHA.

I've heard that omega-3 can come in several different forms. What form is Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3?
Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 is concentrated fish oil in the ethyl ester (EE) format. (Re-esterification is a step that takes EE fish oil and turns it into the triglyceride (TG) format.) Manufacturing a product in the TG state means further processing and yield losses so that the subsequent product is significantly more expensive. The TG form also causes additional "burp back" in many people.

I am allergic to fish. Is it OK for me to take this product?
No. It would not be advisable for you to take the Advanced Omega-3 product if you have such a condition.

I already eat a lot of fish. Should I take this fish oil supplement?
Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contains a 60 percent concentration of EPA and DHA, compared to most products having a 30 percent concentration. The average American eats fish once every 11 days. Much of the fish consumed in diets is farm and/or fresh water raised and has low levels of omega-3 fatty acids. However, if you already eat four or more servings of fatty types of fish per week - such as salmon, Arctic char, trout or tuna - you may not need additional omega-3 in your diet.

Is it safe to consume Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 supplements if I suffer from atrial fibrillation?
Yes. Studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death by 42 percent to 90 percent by stabilizing the rhythm of the heart.

Why does Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 contain soybean and canola oil?
To prevent oxidation of the bulk fish oil, we add an antioxidant blend to all steam deodorized fish oils. This antioxidant blend is the source of the soybean oil and canola oil you see listed on the Advanced Omega-3 ingredient panel. The soybean oil and canola oil are carrier oils for the tocopherol present in the antioxidant blend and serve no other purpose in the blend or in fish oil product. The antioxidant blend is present in very small amounts in the bulk oil (typically 5.0 mg/g) and the soybean and canola oils make up only a portion of this blend.

Are there purines in Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3?
Purines are nitrogen-containing compounds that can be broken down in the human body to form uric acid. If the kidneys can't effectively remove uric acid from the blood stream, the blood becomes saturated with it at which point the uric acid begins to crystallize in joints, most often in the big toe. Gout is the medical term for uric acid crystallization in joints and the accompanying symptoms of inflammation and severe pain.

One component of controlling this disease is to consume a low purine diet. While anchovies and sardines contain moderate to high levels of purines, fish oils derived from these species that are high in omega-3 fatty acids are often recommended because of their anti-inflammatory properties. Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 is highly refined, and when used as directed, should not be a significant source of purines. However, we have not previously tested for the presence of purines in our fish oil.

Is Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3 cold pressed?
No. "Cold press" is a term usually reserved for manufacturing of olive oils. However, our product does undergo a winterization/cold filtration process. Similar to when we heat butter and put it in the refrigerator, the cold filtration process removes the solid part (stearines), leaving an esthetically pleasing product/oil (especially for those who refrigerate their capsules).
